VNC shortcuts in OSX Leopard

If you are using a Mac computer running OSX Leopard 10.5 or higher, then you need to know about the new Screen Sharing application built-in to the OS.  (reference the image above for the filepath to this feature on your machine) I use this feature on almost a daily basis to access all of our Macs for our technical department.

Here’s a cool trick I learned today to put shortcuts on your desktop to open up Screen Sharing directly to a certain machine.

1. Use Safari and type in “vnc://(ip address)“.  This will open up Screen Sharing to that machine. (see below)

2. Drag that address to your desktop to create the shortcut. (notice the shortcut name should have a “.inetloc” extension)
